The 'SS' stood for Super Sport and the name had been used some years previous to the 1998 Camaro SS. Back in 1967 the original Camaro SS got you the 295bhp (220kW) Turbo-Fire 350ci (5.7-liter) V8 engine and special SS hood, badges and stripes. In the more recent version, output didn't seem much higher, but the all new aluminium engine could scream the Camaro SS to 60inph (95km/h) in a shade over 5 seconds and down the quarter-mile in 13 seconds. The aluminium LSI engine featured ram air on the SS to help boost power from the usual 305bhp (227kW). At the rear the live axle remained which could upset handling, but only On the worst streets. Up front it used unequal-length wishbones, and with uprated suspension plus the 9x17-inch (229x432mm) alloys and 275/40 tyres, this could pull 0.9gs on the skid pad. It is one of Chevrolet's fastest muscle cars of all time.
