Beloved of the United Kingdom's royal family, politicians and even local dignitaries, the DS420 became the archetypal British limousine. Based on an extended Jaguar 420G platform, the DS420 was launched in 1968, although its ornate chromework, old-fashioned interior and no-nonsense, slab-sided panels recall a much earlier era. Inside, the car was incredibly well appointed, with three rows of seats, lots of wood and leather and the option of sterling silver on the door handles and window winding handles. But the comfort was very much levelled at rear seat passengers. The chauffeur's compartment at the front was cramped and uncomfortable, while driving the DS420 could be tricky due to its enormous length and width. Continued demand from the government kept the DS420 in production until 1992!
