While the original 1969 240Z was simple and effective, Datsun tried to make it more refined in later years. It gained weight which meant it wasn't quite as nimble and lost power. Physically it felt bigger too, but throughout the Z and ZX's history, all models offered much scope for tuning. This particular car was put together in Essex, UK, and starting with a 1979 model the owner has increased the Intercooled turbocharger's boost and re-mapped the fuelling and timing for a power increase which allows 14.0 sec quarter-mile times. It uses adjustable shocks, motorsport springs, urethane bushes, uprated anti-roll bars and 9-inch/l 1-inch (229/279mm) alloys to maximize cornering potential, plus four-piston callipers on larger vented discs up front to increase braking power. Externally it features the IMSA arches from the ZX-R homologation special, only available in the USA.
