This was the first car from Ferrari which tried the 2+2 seating arrangement and it was unusual aside from this as Bertone styled it, instead of mainstay Pininfarina. The sharp-edged lines and out-of-proportion roof because of the extra seating required made it unconventional and disliked by many Ferrari purists. The other first was the use of a V8 which Ferrari mid-mounted for the handling benefits. Cleverly they also managed to package the gearbox below the engine to make the drive train short and therefore give extra room for the rear passengers. The chassis was a carry-over from the Dino, being fully independent with wishbones and using four-wheel vented disc brakes. The V8 was a close relative of I he 268ci (4.4-liter) V12 which powered the 365 GTB, sharing its stroke and bore. Its block and heads were aluminium and it had quad cams and Weber carburettors.
