Probably one of the most famous Ferraris due to the amount produced (over 6,000), the 308 was also one of the most stylish from the Modena, Italy, factory. Launched in 1975 and designed to replace the V6 Dino, the 308 was to continue on the small-engined theme but it ended up a V8 and mid-engined, with the motor transversely mounted. It used the same Dino suspension and this made it a real purist's Ferrari, with plenty of potential in acceleration, deceleration and handling. The quad-cam V8 (with belt driven cams against previous Ferraris' chain drive) all-alloy and initially using multi carburettors, changed to fuel injection in1981. Basic square-section chassis was as per Ferrari tradition, as was the double wishbone suspension which made for very nimble handling. The body was initially made in glass-fibre but this changed in 1977, when all panels became steel.
