As a replacement for the 355, the new 360 Modena not only had to look exquisite, it had to be quicker and more nimble in the handling. Pininfarina styled the body and through thousands of hours wind-tunnel testing came up with a shape that instantly shouted 'Ferrari'. But it was clever too, in that without a spoiler front or rear, it had more downforce at 70mph (113km/h) than the previous 355 had at top speed. The functional undertray helped this immensely. The 360 was the first Ferrari of all-aluminium construction, making it 131lb (59kg) lighter than the 355. Through adaptive damping, the ride quality was kept very good too, despite a set-up biased towards handling. The V8 engine was all new, with 40 valves, titanium con-rods and two cams per bank. It had one of the world's highest specific outputs Of 111bhp (82kW) per liter.
