Pontiac Trans Am (1978)

Pontiac Trans Am (1978)

Displaying a large Firebird hood decal meant the 1978 Trans Am had to live up to expectations. The car had already satisfied owners with its handling, which it was praised for back in 1970, but the owner of this car has gone further still to enhance the cornering potential with uprated gas shocks, larger anti-roll bars front and rear, plus lowering springs. The brakes have a rear-disc upgrade and all are now vented. The engine is Pontiac's awesome big-block 455ci (7,456cc), tuned here with an Edelbrock intake, Crane high-lift camshaft, high-flow carburettor and dual exhaust with performance mufflers. The wheels are 8x16-inch (203x406mm) cross-spoke alloys with 255/50ZR rated tyres, a nice compromise between ride quality and handling. A front spoiler with air dam helps airflow over the car instead of underneath, while the rear spoiler provides downforce and stability at speed.
